Deep Water (2006)
I have just seen this film on british television on channel 4, and it intrigued me from the start. The documentary was about the 1968 first solo, non-stop, round-the-world boat race which departed in England. The story concentrated on the build up of the race, the race itself and the sailors experience around the world until the end, with real film footage, recordings, writings and commentary of the story made by friends and family. The film focused mainly on Donald Crowhurst and he's own battle with the race(which was the hardest out of all the other eight-and caused him to commit suicide), but also revealed clippings of the other 8 sailors. It was a very interesting documentary concentrating on the isolation of the sailors, and what affected them, or didn't affect them at sea. For instances the French sailor found himself at sea, and he didn't want to go home therefore he decided to go around the world again. I could relate with much said in the film to my own understanding of life and experiences. It's a wonderful insightful film to watch, and you get to find out about this boat journey made by man. (I hadn't known about it before)
Has anyone come across this film yet? What did you think of it?
