Sony wants an 'iTunes for movies'
Sony is to make its top 500 films available digitally in the next year. Michael Arrieta, senior vice president of Sony Pictures, said at a US Digital Hollywood conference that it wanted to create an "iTunes" for films.

With the increase of broadband, I think this is a great idea and I would almost definitely use this kind of service.

I think it is odd that iTunes itself is not delivering the Sony pictures - they do movies already. Maybe I am mistaken and Sony is distributing through this channel? _________________

I think Sony wants to enter the market that Apple is currently the juggernaut in - delivery of digital media to the living room (and office and car and kitchen and dorm room and ....)
It will be interesting to see if they have the clout to create the demand. People already have iTunes and iPods - getting people to move to another second system for sony content will be tough. _________________
