The Brothers Grimm

The Brothers Grimm is not based on a true story, so much as it's a "what-if" take on the popular fairy tales written by the Grimm brothers. Will and Jake earn their living conning villages with a phony demon hunter gimmick to boot, all the while chronicling their shameless adventures. But when General Delatombe figures them out, he sends the brothers to solve the mysterious disappearance of young girls in a haunted forest, that's unlike any of their previous imitations.

I rented this because it looked like a movie that didn't take itself seriously, but was more about fun and entertainment. And this is true at first, but as the movie progresses, it attempts to evolve into something heavier, and it's all downhill from here. Alas, The Brothers Grimm is an interesting concept that has its moments, but fails to tie all the fabled characters into a cohesive, rhythmic unit. Instead, most of the plot seems rushed and thrown together at the last minute.

Didn't watch this movie. Decided not to. Matt Damon is making quite a few movies, and it seems that a lot of them are flops. I didn't have high expectation to begin with, and I didn't read many good reviews including this one right here. It seems that I won't be watching this movie any time soon ...

Prior to Brothers Grimm, I think Damon worked on Bourne Supremacy and Stuck On You, both of which weren't that bad. I haven't seen any of the Bourne movies, but I've heard good things.

Stuck On You, is another comedy by the Farrelly Brothers, and it's quite funny how they approach the issue of conjoined twins. But it's nothing stellar like Dumb and Dumber, so it's passable if you're not too fond of the Farrellys.

I watched both

The Bourne Identity and
The Bourne Supremacy

I enjoyed both, in particular, The Bourne Supremacy.

Ocean's Twelve was a miss (2004). Syriana was ok, but nothing spectacular, IMO (2005). The Legend of Bagger Vance was also a miss (2000). I don't think that The Talented Mr. Ripley was that great (1999).

A colleague of mine told me Syrianna is confusing to understand. Is it one of those movies?

Also, would you recommend I watch the Bourne movies? Matt Damon's currently working on the third installment Ultimatum.

Yes, it is, and I don't understand why the film was nominated for various awards. One of problems, I think, is the following. When you write a fictional story and include multi-national corporations equivalent of ExxonMobile and Chevron and a couple of oil producing countries in the Middle East, you can't really make up number of events and hope that they all tie up nicely. If you write a story like that, then follow real events; give your own perspective. The whole story just didn't go smoothly. Events didn't quite tie up. Correlations were rather vague.

First one: Good. Good entertainment.

Second one: Great. Great entertainment.

Their one: I'd be pleasantly surprised if the third one would top the second one because the second one was very good.
