Another good point. I think that had to do with how there were already other SW movies when the prequals came out so there wasn't as big a hype, and that when Star Wars came out in '79 or whenever, there were no other movies like it. Nowadays, the effects of or similar to Star Wars can and are done in other movies.

Star Wars is an influential science fantasy saga and fictional universe created by writer/producer/director George Lucas during the early 1970s. The saga began with the film Star Wars, which was released on May 25, 1977 . The film, later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, became a pop culture phenomenon, and spawned five more feature films and an extensive collection of licensed books, comics, video games, spin-off films, television series, toys, and other products — all of which are set within a fictional "galaxy far, far away."

I'm surprised any of them were available at the cinema, III was released almost a year ago...

I was going to point that out. I don't know any woman from the new generation that enjoys Star Wars. They're more into chick flicks.

Truth be told, Star Wars is not something that stands the test of time, so this might also contribute to the fact that women don't enjoy it. I'm now finding a lot of boys who don't find it appealing as well.

That's an interesting point, and if I think about it, a lot of SCI-FI movies are like that. Even if the movie offers great special effect, it won't be that special in several years. Even if the movie offers new and interesting scientific ideas, they could look totally ridiculous number of years later.

I think that can be argued with any genre, but perhaps it's particularly prevalent with scifi, because scifi generally is supposed to depict the "future." Once the "future" of the movie becomes the "present" of reality, it does tend to somewhat degrade the film's initial magic.

Honestly though, Star Wars movies have sluggish pacing. This is overlooked with original fans because when it was first released, the audience was busy trying to seep in all the never-before-seen or heard qualities of the movie.

I thought Episode III had great pacing, but that's about it. Episode V and IV follow, but you'd have to be a big fan of scifi to look past the rate of storytelling.

I'm a woman, and love Star Wars. I don't believe it's a guy thing.

If only the conclusive outcome of an argument was based on personal outlook. Cool

I may like Backstreet Boys. It doesn't mean it's necessarily a "guy thing." I'm most like a minority member in the male community.
