Rescue Dawn

Rescue Dawn is the true story of Dieter Dengler (the subject of the documentary Little Dieter Needs to Fly), a fighter pilot shot down over Laos. Held in a torture camp, he rallies some of the demoralized prisoners, organizes a daring escape into the jungle and is finally rescued.

I thought this was one of the best films to come out of last year (it came out last year here anyway, maybe earlier in America?)
Really gripping film though, try and watch it.

Yes, it was fascinating to watch... Dengler really had to use all his wits, skills, and charisma to survive. If you watch the documentary you get an even better sense of his character; he talks about his childhood in war-torn, impoverished Germany and you realize that's how he learned how to lie to the guards effectively. Sadly, you also see how it still affects him psychologically... he hoards food, doesn't sleep well unless he's in an airplane cockpit, has to always know he's got an escape route, etc.
