Into Great Silence
Most people would probably find this documentary of the daily lives of the monks of the Grande Chartreuse monastery boring, but I found it an interesting peek into a vanishing lifestyle. The monks all take vows of silence and live lives of mostly manual labor and prayer. They do get a weekly hour-long walk when they can explore the beautiful countryside or even wander through the nearby village (as long as they don't talk to anyone, touch or eat anything). (There's even a scene where a handful of monks really cut loose and slide down a snow-covered hill on their backs, disturbing a pair of rabbits.) _________________
