Ken Burns hits another one out of the park with this documentary series on the second world war. Interviews with Vets and their families interspersed with letters home from GI's, people that were working on the home front and children of these people. You also get a good historical view of the military actions that are the timeline behind the documentary (its broken out by periods of the war and the interviews are tied to the appropriate time period...)
It aired on PBS within the past 2 months and I'm sure they'll do another run of the full series again soon.
