Children of Men

I think this qualifies as Sci-Fi... this movie was awesome... worth checking out if you have not.

Seriously - I love the post-apocolyptic stuff and that movie was great... terrific symbolism too.

A bit scary too... did you hear about how fewer male babies are being born due to pollution? Well, civilization won't collapse because of that one thing but it just goes to show that contaminants in our environment can and do affect us.

Yes, I have. Civilization won't completely collapse overnight because of that one thing but, over time, the contaminants are poisoning our environment. More and more forms of life are becoming extinct, weather patterns are changing. Rates of autism and other such things are growing at an alarming rate. Food is becoming more and more sparse (demand is beginning to out pace supply.) Oil is at or post its peak in production capacity yet consumption continues to increase year by year. The US $ is in a free fall and the rate of bankruptcies and foreclosures are rising at all time high rates. New and move virulent forms of viruses are becoming prevalent throughout the third world and even here (we've gotten 2 letters from school about 2 cases of MRSA within the past month.) The average American is carrying thousands if not tens of thousands in debt, stuck in houses whose value is deflating while their mortgages, given to them by mortgage companies that preyed on an under-educated society that is driven by an innate consumerist mindset, are getting more and more expensive (read Interest Only Arms and Predatory Lending.) We live now, in a time, that could result in a paradigm shift unlike anything seen since the Great Depression, if not worse... The house of cards has been built. The house of cards (all of the interwoven factors above) is ready to fall... and when it falls... everything will change.

I think this movie was good, BUT NOT THE BEST Sci Fi movie of all time like some suggested. IMO it is not in Blade Runners world of movies.
