Final Destination 3 - hit or miss?
The third installation of the golden franchise is haunted by the same fateful killer. However, it's a departure from the sequel, as it cleanses itself of characters linked to 1 & 2, and the series rejuvenates with fresh characters.
This time around, the series shamelessly rips off pages from author R.L. Stine's Say Cheese and Die formula and introduces a clairvoyant camera that predicts death. So now the refugees of fate can take a clue from these pictures.
Unfortunately however, the movie lacks the ingenuity of the first two films. Although Final Destination films are notoriously predictable, the appeal comes by the death trap fashioned in a clever maze. The grim reaper's design in Final Destination 3 seems to lack the complexity of its predecessors.
It's ironic because you'd think that the original director James Wong would return on board to set the franchise ablaze a new one, or at least set it back on track. This is far from the case, and the inability to churn out a worthy sequel despite obvious plagiarism from a NY Times Best Selling book, is a morbid thought. _________________
