I assume this is the most recent awards, with Reese Witherspoon winning. I definitely think the 2nd place actress, Keira Knightley, should have won. She played a much larger role in Pride & Prejudice than Reese did in Walk the line, and IMO she played the part better as well.
It's no secret that I love Keira Knightley, but I thought Reese very well deserved it more than Keira. Whenever someone plays a true life character, it's a lot more difficult to pull off. You have to research the character, watch videos, listen to her sing, etc. You have to embody the human being you're representing. I don't know if Reese really embodied June Carter as accurately as possible, but I assume she did...
Keira, on the other hand, merely played a character from a fictional novel so she's not held up to the strict standard of a real person. Keira could just make things up as she goes, not to mention the author was on set so she can correct Keira anytime. _________________
