Lord of War
I watched Lord of war last night (starring Nocholas Cage) I must say I thought it was a very responsible film with an important message and it got it across well.
I'm not too sure that Nicholas Cage was the right person for the part tbh but having said that I can't think who would have been more appropriate to play the arms dealer.
It isn't 'action packed' nor is it a 'sit on your sofa and be lectured at type of film' I recommend it as a film for a rainy day or as a second film for a night's DVD watching although I wouldn't recommend it as the main feature.
Please excuse my ramblings and let me know what you thought of the film if you've seen it. _________________

I watch a lot of Cage's films. This was one of 'em. Excellent movie, although many conservative film goers will think it lesser, because it ellicits sympathy for the devil - Nick Cage and reveals the shady arms regulations of the U.S. government. _________________

I did not think much of it.
Reason 1: Not realistic enough. I sincerely doubt if they went around the world to make this movie. Too many scenes look unrealistic.
Reason 1.2: Yet again, everyone speaks English. Well, not everyone speaks English. If the story takes place in many places around the world, let's hear many languages.
Reason 2: War zones look too clean and organized. Too many movies create organized "unorganized and chaotic" streets and buildings. This is yet another one.
There are many other reasons, but here are just a couple of reasons. _________________

I don't think the movie was supposed to portray realism. It's based on a true story, but it's directed through a quirky lens. It's Nick Cage at his best. Making a seriously "F'ed up" situation look comical to the audience. That's what I got from the movie. I wasn't seeking for authenticity in the war zones or credibility in Nick Cage's confident, matter-of-fact perspective on the worst days of his life.
Every movie has a certain style that the director attempts to capture. Sometimes it's graphically explicit realism... sometimes it's mundane and dreary... sometimes it's comical as hell. Sometimes it's a mix of all of these. There is no set cinematic atmosphere a director must live by... personally, I thought the director's intentions were consistent and realized. _________________

While I personally did not think that the movie was great, I have hard time disagreeing with what you just said. I'm trying to figure out exactly why I did not like the movie though, and ... maybe the following is one of reasons.
I kind of felt like the movie lacked depth. An eastern European descent buys a bunch of weapons at bargain prices from eastern European countries. He sells those weapons to war lords in Africa and get rich. He also sells weapons to drugs dealers and thugs. First, western countries produce far more weapons than Russia (Soviet Union), in particular, US, Germany and France. It's logical to assume that weapons produced in western countries get distributed worldwide in some way. Did the movie touch on that? No. Also at least two parties need to have supplies of weapons. The movie only looked one side. The story seemed a bit one-sided. _________________

This was a great movie!
It was really overlooked though. My favorite aspect was probably his relationship with his brother. Giving him lines of coke before going into rehab and whatnot.
Great movie. _________________

Yeah, definately one of his better movies! It had less action, more drama and an interesting story line! It's not exactly ripe for a sequel but it did leave me wanting more!
