Jet Li

Does anyone know why he isn't planning on making any more films? was a bit of a shock hearing this considering he is such an awesome fighter.

Rogue is in post-production.

Wait... he's not making movie anymore?

The One, Remeo Must Die, and Unleashed are all great movies though.

Is this news, or is this simply an assumption because he's not been heard for a year? The last film he made was Unleashed, which wasn't a bad movie, but I think martial arts films had their time in Hollywood. Unless they do something revolutionary, something along the lines of Ong-Bak, it would be tough to stand out from the usual formula.

I'm kinda baffled that nobody's taking advantage of Rush Hour's success. All they have to do is pair Jackie Chan with a comic sidekick. Thus far, the method seems to have done miracles for the box office.

There aren't that many martial artists, so it's not easy to make martial arts movies. That can be the biggest problem Hollywood faces.

A shortage of martial artists? Highly doubt it.

There's Jet Li and the new guy Tony Jaa.

Jackie Chan hasn't been featured in a competent film since Rush Hour 2, although I heard Shanghai Knights held its own. Most of the stuff that followed, like The Medallion and The Tuxedo were the mediocre results of his own production company.

When showing a trailor for his new film being released at the cinema on TV the narrator said 'Jet Li in his final epic martial arts film' or something very very similar - hence why I started the thread I got no more information than that.

Is it just me who feel that martial artists who feature in major Hollywood movies generally passed their primes years ago?

This is probably true for Jackie Chan. His latest low-budget bombs have featured elementary plots with unimpressive fight choreagraphy, compared to his earlier classics like Rumble in the Bronx and Supercop. I don't know if it's just a lack of stunt ideas or Chan is getting old.

However, I still think Jet Li's capable of more or less the same stuff.

In any case, Tony Jaa is their successor and I expect to see him take over the martial arts scene in the future.

In case of Jackie Chan, he made all his classics in Hong Kong. Hollywood never liked promoting foreign movies, so they didn't start promoting him until after Hollywood started making movies featuring Jackie Chan in Hollywood. Pity ...

What's more pitiful is how long it takes to crank out a Rush Hour sequel. The franchise was a gold mine. Guaranteed 20+ mill the first opening week.

Supposedly the third installment is finally coming out this year. However, I'm not sure how well the audience will receive it... times have changed... Chan and Tucker were at their peak when they made Rush Hour 2. Since then, the only publicity Tucker's received was through tabloids reporting his legal troubles. And Chan's credibility has bottomed out, like Sam Jackson.

I can only recall seeing a couple of his movies, but his new one coming up , Fearless, looks awesome, I definitely plan to see that.
