MTV Movie Awards 2006

It was okay... I prefered last year's host Lindsay Lohan. Jessica Alba was the wrong choice. She came off awkward and the skits fell flat. The introduction in particular, attempted to copy Conan O'Brien's talk show formula of a planted audience member interrupting the show, but it was just awful.

For those who missed the show, here are the nominees and winners.

Re: MTV Movie Awards 2006

Academy awards are heavily influenced by cultural issues at the time and also financial strengths of various studios. They also often pick movies that have conventional styles. Winners are kind of predictable in short. When MTV started its Movie Awards, I got the impression that MTV picked movies that Academy hesitated to give awards for various reasons but deserved to get some recognitions, e.g., Pulp Fiction. MTV Movie Awards seem to have lost their original spirit and inspiration ...

Look at these movies, for example. I like some of them, but should they get some awards and stuff?

Honestly, I thought the award should've gone to Sin City or Batman Begins.

What sets MTV Movie Awards apart from the rest of the shows, is that the people vote for it. So if you don't like the winner, you've only got the general public to blame. Laughing

w00t!

I personally think episode 3 was the best movie of all 05, but that's just me. At least Batman Begins made the list.

Wedding Crashers was a hilarious movie, however I don't think that it was the best of 2005 by any stretch of the imagination.

Batman Begins
Sin City were both MUCH better. But hey look at the people who voted all horny teenyboppers in love with the likes of Crooked Nose and Vince Vaughn

I seem to remember that MTV Movie Awards picked more interesting movies 10 years ago. Now ... I care less about MTV Movie Awards.

I didn't think it had been around that long......

But yeah, it seems that a lot of the awards shows are picking strange movies and have weird categories

On top of there the award market is really saturated right now

Episode 3 is my favorite Star Wars, period.

Batman Begins' Christian Bale won Best Hero, and rightfully so. Bale is one of the best actors, who doesn't get the Oscar recognition he deserves because his best works are action/thrillers (American Psycho, Batman Begins).

IMO, his best work is El Maquinista (The Machinist). He only weighs about 100 lb in the movie (it was his real weight) and he looks pretty gross though.

Well, look at this way... MTV Movie Awards is the only premiere awards organization that lets the fans decide the winner.

Even though you may not agree with the general public's taste in movies, it is refreshing to see awards nominated by someone other than critics.

Movies like Batman Begins and Sin City are two fantastic movies that deserve some kind of award... MTV Movie Awards makes this possible.

It also gives well-made fun movies a shot to take something home.

Hmmm ... but you don't have to watch 100 movies a year to vote, right? You can only watch Batman Begins and vote for one?

(But ... actually you don't have to watch all nominated movies to vote for Academy Awards nominated movies, either ...)

For once, Hollywood is not in control. We support the celebrities so ultimately we should be the ones that decide their worth. Laughing

Take for instance, Jake Gyllenhal and Heath Ledger. They should've received at least some kind of a "Great Sports!" award for rubbing against each sacks, and MTV allowed that to happen at the 2006 Movie Awards.

I have to disagree with the statment about Hollywood being in control. The people voting are MTV viewers and in most cases fanatics if they care enough to vote. And MTV viewers as we know are force fed entertainment.

And MTV isnt the only channel that allows the people choose the winners. Are you forgetting the Kids Choice Awards on Nick? Wink
