Johnny Depp
How have you all felt about him since his anti-americanisms. I have found it hard to bare from him anymore and have decided to be nil at any more of his box office debut's. You gotta stay true and be rue the people who made you who you are.
Too many actors in politics these days, we have enough actors in politics as it is.
Its a shame cuz he is a good actor =) _________________ Jeff/Forumsigs

I try to ignore actor's political stances and other weird things about them, especially if they are good actors. Another example is Tom Cruise, I really like him as an actor so I just ignore how weird he is IRL.
I really like Depp in PotC and I'm really looking forward to the second one. _________________

Yeah, I feel similarly. You don't need to be a republican to watch Mel Gibson's movies. You don't need to dislike President Bush to watch movies featuring Tim Robbins. You don't necessarily have to agree with French government's approach to foreign affairs in order to appreciate French movies. _________________

Would be kind to elaborate on this?
Supposedly, the guy resides in Europe for privacy. Same deal with Shania Twain. It's not surprising though. Depp has had a checkered relationship with paparazzis throughout his career. He even punched a guy for taking photos of his kids. _________________

I agree that he's a quintessential American in the sense that he primarily features in movies that have huge budgets and pay him well. A lot of actors, actresses and directors are like that, but it's understandable to a large extent. I mean, you're as good as your last movie in this industry, so why not try to make as much as you can? You never know what'll happen tomorrow. Also after all, movie business is a business, so it needs to be sustainable financially. It's critical to make financially sensible decisions.
That being said, as I briefly mentioned, what I care most is what kind of movie it is and it is not rather than what actors, actresses and directors do behind the scene. Sex party? Shooting out heroine? So be it. It's their private life.
With regard to this interview, it seems that there is some confusion. He did his interview in French and the interview was edited and published by a German magazine. Once any transcript passes through two different parties, it can become totally different from the original. Also we don't exactly know how well he speaks French. I don't think that the content of the interview should be taken seriously. _________________

I agree
good point we all know how things get around just from one person to the next. Alot of celebrity's get mis -quoted. He is a good actor and always takes a good script, not many get to write their own ticket... _________________ Jeff/Forumsigs

I used to think he was very same old same ols - ie all the parts he played became a variation of his limited acting abilities - but I was very wrong.
I think he was fabulous as Capt Jack Sparrow and since seeing that performance I've started looking at him in a whole new light. _________________

I do think that his acting is good, but I'm not too crazy about the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." I actually like his older movies such as
Donnie Brasco

Slightly-off-topic:
Pirates of the Caribbean is an interesting series. Keira Knightley is British (English). Orlando Bloom is British (English). Geoffrey Rush is Australian. Johnny Depp is an American, but he lives in France. Yet the series is a quintessential American blockbuster movie series.
1. Gigantic budget
2. Total work of fiction
3. Predictable happy ending and storyline
4. Pretty girls and pretty boys
5. No socio-economic value _________________

I always knew that Johnny was the main character in these movies, but I do hope Keira has a bigger role in number 2 than she did in the first one. _________________

There's just something about Depp. Maybe it's his "cool factor" that makes him such a star. _________________
