Serenity
No one's posted about Serenity/Firefly yet? Well, it was nice to finally have a better explanation for the existence of Reavers than just "space madness", but overall I thought the TV series was better. I found the added Mr. Universe character annoying and didn't like the schlocky way they (spoiler alert)
killed off Wash

I loved the movie, I think it worked better if you'd watched the TV show first though.
I prefered the TV show, wish it hadn't ended. At least the film tied up a few loose ends.

I have friends who hadn't seen the show who were still impressed by the film, but I believe having watched the TV show does improve your viewing experience.

The TV series was great and unfortunately died an early death at the hands of TV executives. I think you'll like it, TVDinner
